Commercial Innovation and Member Projects

Trust Alliance New Zealand (TANZ) supports collaborative research, development and innovation in trusted digital identity, agricultural data interoperability, governance and artificial intelligence.

TANZ member organisations are now developing and deploying commercial technologies and services. This demonstrates the progression from collaborative research and technology demonstration to practical commercial applications across agriculture, financial services, environmental management and international supply chains.

Current Commercial Developments

These include:

  • Agricultural financial risk and lending intelligence — farm-level economic modelling, credit risk analysis, IFRS 9 expected credit loss inputs, AI-assisted loan assessment and regulatory risk intelligence.
  • Agricultural environmental and regulatory intelligence — applications connecting farm identity, environmental information, resource consents and regulatory obligations to support commercial risk assessment and compliance services.
  • Farm identity and enterprise data integration — commercial applications enabling organisations to connect verified farm identities with existing enterprise systems, information services and authorised data exchange.
  • AI agents and agricultural intelligence services — development of specialist agricultural agents and federated intelligence capabilities for organisations operating across different commodities and jurisdictions.

These categories illustrate areas of commercial development and do not necessarily represent individual publicly disclosed projects. A number of additional commercial projects are being undertaken by TANZ members in New Zealand and internationally.

Some of these developments are commercially confidential because of client relationships, contractual arrangements, intellectual property considerations or ongoing commercial negotiations.

Details of individual projects will be published where appropriate and with the agreement of the participating member organisations.

TANZ’s operating model separates collaborative research and shared industry development from the independent commercial activities of its members.

FarmID — Trusted Agricultural Identity and AI Infrastructure

2026–Ongoing | Commercial Development

FarmID is a trusted digital infrastructure platform connecting agricultural enterprise identity, authoritative information, regulatory obligations and artificial intelligence.

Developed commercially by TANZ members, building on several years of research, FarmID establishes identifiable agricultural enterprises and connects their land, activities, resource consents, business relationships and regulatory requirements through an agricultural knowledge graph.

The infrastructure enables authorised organisations and AI agents to access and analyse agricultural information, assess risk and exchange intelligence securely across different applications and jurisdictions.

FarmID supports federated AI agents, allowing specialist environmental, financial, production, regulatory and market intelligence services to work together using common identity, authority and contextual information.

Initial development has focused on Canterbury, New Zealand, with international demonstrations and applications extending into Australia, the United States and other agricultural markets.

FarmID is not another farmer-facing application. It provides underlying identity, intelligence and interoperability infrastructure upon which organisations can develop their own applications, AI agents and commercial services.

Agricultural Financial Risk and Lending Intelligence

2026–Ongoing | Commercial Development

This project applies FarmID infrastructure to agricultural financial risk assessment and rural lending.

It combines farm-level financial and econometric modelling, water entitlement and regulatory risk analysis, and AI-assisted credit assessment to improve the identification of financially vulnerable agricultural enterprises.

Applications include forward-looking risk information for IFRS 9 expected credit loss and probability of default models, dairy farm financial stress testing, automated collection of lending information and improved loan officer productivity.

The objective is to reduce the cost of agricultural lending, improve portfolio risk management and enable financial institutions to assess agricultural credit exposure using verified, contextual information.
